And with it, more threats of flooding. It rained most of the day, into the evening, and is supposed to rain again for much of tomorrow.
Ah, well. I am still battling a head cold, and since I have to work anyhow, the weather doesn't matter too much. I put the sheets back on the Boys to keep off the cold rain, even though the temps are hovering near 50F or so. It's just enough to be chilly out and I much prefer they keep dry whenever possible.
I did lock them out of the pasture because thunderstorms were predicted. There was some thunder and lightning this evening just after dark, so precautions were warranted.
It's always interesting to me that despite having ample shelter, my horses will often simply stand outside in the bad weather. I would suspect that in the summer, the rain might actually feel good, but in the winter??
As always, as hard as I might try, sometimes I simply cannot think like a horse.
I do have a feeling horses are much deeper thinkers than we often give them credit for. I am sure my PJ was a philosopher. Toby is more of general, the kind of leader who does not like to be crossed, but will lead the troops for good when necessary. Tucker is the sensitive, frustrated poet or actor who constantly needs to be understood and, of course, appreciated. And Chance? Well, he may be the charismatic politician, always ready to extend a hand to shake while planning to pursue his own agenda by winning my vote.
I figure I could run the country with these guys in charge.

ReplyDeleteLove it! There was a reason Jonathan Swift chose horses to base his Houyhnhnms (aka "the perfection of nature") on in Gulliver's Travels! They are the wisest and most thoughtful of all creatures. Quoted from Wiki:

I am always glad to hear that the horses often chose to stand outside in the elements rather than under shelter. Tetley lives outside now with only rugs for shelter and he seems just fine with that. His joints and respiratory system certainly have benefited.
