Snow doesn't stick here for very long, so we have lots of rain (=mud), then it feeezes (=nasty jagged frozen mud), and then it snows on top (=super treacherous footing). Thaw and repeat.SprinklerBandithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11381922004203479379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29272013.post-87333511559971433852010-02-22T09:11:16.141-05:002010-02-22T09:11:16.141-05:00The mud is rearing it's ugly head around here,...The mud is rearing it's ugly head around here, too. Even though we have sandy soil, all this snow melting is just too much for the ground to handle. But I'll take the mud over the snow any day!A Work In Progresshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14076863943914879567noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29272013.post-51466631724466948362010-02-21T22:47:39.453-05:002010-02-21T22:47:39.453-05:00We just got rid of our snow...they're calling ...We just got rid of our snow...they're calling for more later in the month, but AGH...Do. Not. Want.

The ground is finally getting dry enough where Jack and I don't slide. Today was the first day I felt comfortable leaving leg protection off.

The heavy type makes for good packing to make snowmen...I love making them, despite the mess of the snow. The powdery type is easier to shovel off my doorstep though...and it doesn't cake in the horses' hooves so badly.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04821724997318014313noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29272013.post-26986653981437262082010-02-21T22:46:17.692-05:002010-02-21T22:46:17.692-05:00Everyone seems to be having trouble with snow; I t...Everyone seems to be having trouble with snow; I think we're all happy that spring is coming. And you're definitely right about the mud- even down here in New Orleans, where snow isn't an issue, there's ALWAYS the mud. It doesn't affect riding (thank goodness for Terra 2000 footing!), but it makes turn out a hassle.

I wish there was such a thing as autumn down here... Guess I'll have to wish for summer instead.Abigailhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11679854172143313965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29272013.post-83993876029376048112010-02-21T21:32:47.692-05:002010-02-21T21:32:47.692-05:00I'm not crazy about the wet heavy snow either....I'm not crazy about the wet heavy snow either. Out west it is so powdery, I only know this because some of my kids are skiers and they prefer to ski out west as opposed to here because it's so icy on the mountains here. Can't wait for spring either but I detest mud as much as snow. I think it's more dangerous and slippery and then of course it can suck the shoes right off the horses. Ugh. I wish it could be autumn all year long!Grey Horse Mattershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05837575441967937196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29272013.post-24971174823814513062010-02-21T17:31:50.873-05:002010-02-21T17:31:50.873-05:00I've found the snow here is more often than no...I've found the snow here is more often than not the light type as well - we lived in Boston before and I remember all that wet, heavy snow. That said, the snow that's coming tonight is supposed to be the heavy type.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
